A Doctor and a Queen, namely Waitress’ Gavin Creel and Six The Musical’s Alexia McIntosh, were on hand today to announce the 2020 Olivier Awards nominations, just a month before the ceremony takes place on 5 April at the Royal Albert Hall. So now the celebrations have begun, particularly in the & Juliet, Fiddler On The Roof, Dear Evan Hansen and Mary Poppins camps, all of which have received plenty of love from the nominating panel. So who are you hoping leaves with the big prizes on the day?
After a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Trevor Nunn's critically acclaimed revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has transferred to the West End's Playhouse Theatre for a limited season. Continuing our #FirstNightTakeover series, Faves vlogger Perry O'Bree was there. Amongst the opening night audience, he rubbed elbows with husband-and-wife West End stars Michael Jibson and Caroline Sheen and with onstage father and daughter stars Andy Nyman and Harriet Bunton. Watch what happened here!
The anticipation is properly building in the run up to the biggest night in the theatre calendar and now it has gone up a notch with news that all the nominated musicals will be performing at the Olivier Awards 2019 ceremony on 7 April at the Royal Albert Hall, plus The Lion King and Mamma Mia! will be celebrating 20 years in the West End. Oh, and did we mention that stars like Gloria Estefan and Katharine McPhee will be presenting awards?
The matches have been made and the performers chosen to join Andy Nyman and Judy Kuhn in the West End transfer of Menier Chocolate Factory’s Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Trevor Nunn and playing at a reconfigured Playhouse Theatre from 21 March until 15 June 2019.
On 12 May 2019 at London’s Eventim Apollo there will be two concerts of The Best of… Rock Musicals for the benefit of The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust and there are plenty of West End and international stars lining up to take part. They include Adam Pascal, Kerry Ellis, Judy Kuhn, Debbie Kurup, Rob Houchen, and that’s just a few. Are you trying out your air guitar in readiness?
