Good things come to those who wait. After more than 15 years in development (did we really read that right?), homegrown musical MY LAND'S SHORE at last receives a full-scale, world-premiere production with a run in the new year at Walthamstow's Ye Olde Rose & Crown, care of All Star Productions...
All Star Productions opens its 2017 season at east London’s Ye Old Rose and Crown Theatre, Walthamstow, with the world premiere of British musical MY LAND’S SHORE, running from 7 to 26 February 2017, with a press night on 10 February.
The passionate new musical from Wales is a tale of conflict, social injustice, moral dilemmas, guilt, love and heartbreak, with Music and Lyrics by Christopher J Orton and Book and Lyrics by Robert Gould.
The show tells the story of Dic Penderyn a Welsh labourer and coal miner who lived in Merthyr Tydfil who was involved with the Merthyr Rising of 3 June 1831. In the course of the riot he was arrested alongside Lewis Lewis, one of the primary figures in the uprising, and charged with stabbing a soldier with a bayonet. The people of Merthyr Tydfil doubted his guilt, and signed a petition for his release. However, he was found guilty and hanged on 13 August. After his death he was treated as a martyr in Merthyr and across Britain.
MY LAND’S SHORE has been in development since 2002 and has undergone several workshops and even a studio cast recording. For its first staged production, the Creative Team is headed by Director Brendan Matthew, Musical Director Aaron Clingham and Choreographer Charlotte Tooth, all of whom were nominated for Off West End Awards for their work on The Kissing Dance.
