In Girl From the North Country, Nick (Ciaran Hinds) is the owner of a boarding house who owes more money than he can ever repay and his wife Elizabeth (Shirley Henderson) is succumbing to dementia. Sheila Atim plays Marianne, their adopted daughter, who is carrying a child no one will account for. When a preacher selling Bibles (Michael Shaeffer) and a boxer looking for a comeback (Arinze Kene) show up in the middle of the night, things start to spiral beyond the point of no return.
