The creative team behind the critically acclaimed youtube series 'Audition Sessions' and'Audition Sessions : LIVE' (Arcola Theatre, May 2016) have announced their next creative event, a new type of Musical Theatre cabaret aptly named - 'RyCa : Refresh' (August 20th).
RyCa Creative will be taking over a variety of clubs and bars, and turning them into musical theatre live lounges. The first of which (hosted at Foundation Bar, Covent Garden) is intended to reinvent and reimagine some musical theatre classics, blurring the lines between 'Musical Theatre Cabaret' and 'Music Gig'. New arrangements, new voices and new settings. This is not your average cabaret.
RyCa Creative founder Ryan Carter said "When I first started producing, performance opportunities for graduates and musical theatre singers were few and far between. If you needed exposure and didn't have the budget for expensive showreels, your options were limited to stagey open mic nights or recording a song in your bathroom. 18 months later, I'm delighted to see how many graduates and singers are launching their own cabaret companies. That said, I've always had the intention of pushing boundaries and creating something new and exciting, which is how 'Refresh' came to be. I'm working with Jo Noel-Hartley, Sonum Batra and Adam Gillian to turn these musical theatre fan favourites on their heads. Solo's are becoming trios, ballads are becoming up-tempo, big orchestral arrangements are being stripped back to an intimate guitar piece and our finale; one of the most well known songs in musical theatre history - We've written a new intro and it'll be performed acapella.
