She won our hearts on Strictly, wowed us with her dancing feet in FLASHDANCE and now Joanne Clifton is donning some headgear for the London fringe premier of TOP HAT which heads to Upstairs at the Gatehouse for a run over Christmas...
Former Strictly Come Dancing champion Joanne Clifton continues her run of musicals by starring in the London fringe premiere of all-singing, all-dancing Irving Berlin musical TOP HAT, which runs at Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 13 December 2017 to 28 January 2018, with a press night on 15 December.
Clifton made her musical theatre debut in the 2015 UK premiere of Berlin’s Face the Music and, earlier this year, starred in 1920s-set musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Her other stage credits include Burn the Floor, Strictly Live Tour, Marilyn Monroe in Norma Jeane Musical and, currently on tour, Flashdance.
Celebrating the best of 1930s, TOP HAT tells the story of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society girl Dale Tremont (Clifton) in a riotous mistaken-identity plot.
The score is packed with Irving Berlin hits including ‘Cheek to Cheek’, ‘Let’s Face the Music & Dance’, ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ and the title song. The Ovation production is directed by John Plews, with choreography by Chris Whittaker and musical supervision by Dan Glover.
Further casting is to be announced.
