Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’s roots are in Sheffield so it seems fitting that a production company based there – Warp Films – is helping to continue the fairytale success of the award-winning show by making a major film version.

In spring 2019 Warp Films (This Is England, Ghost Stories, The Last Panthers) is expected to begin the film which will be directed by Jonathan Butterell (who also took on the same role for the stage production). The film version of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, written by Tom MacRae and with music by Dan Gillespie Sells, will be inspired by the musical and is being developed in association with Film4.

Jamie Campbell, the boy who inspired the story, said:

“All I originally wanted was to go to my school prom in a dress. Then Firecracker made the documentary. My story then inspired a West End musical. Now it’s a film! It’s incredible. Even I couldn’t have dreamed it.”

Nica Burns, producer of the West End production, said: “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie has captured the hearts of the public and critics in record time. Thanks to them, we will soon be celebrating our second year in the West End and you can now book your tickets as far ahead as April 2019. We are so excited to be announcing the film: Warp Films, with their fantastic track record for telling compelling stories of Britain today, are the perfect filmmakers for this contemporary true story.”

Following its opening at the Sheffield Crucible in 2017, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie transferred to London’s Apollo Theatre where it was welcomed with a host of five-star reviews, seven theatre awards and five Olivier Award nominations. It is now booking until 6 April 2019.

An official cast album was released last month and the musical is being screened live from the West End to more than 510 cinemas across the UK and Ireland by More2Screen on 5 July 2018.
