From one Joseph to another: Jac Yarrow & Jason Donovan

You couldn’t make it up. Not only is ArtsEd graduate Jac Yarrow making his professional stage debut in the West End, he is doing so at the London Palladium, alongside Sheridan Smith and Jason Donovan, while playing one of the most iconic roles in musical theatre. For Jac is living the dream by playing the lead in the new production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, opening at the London Palladium in June 2019.

Jac Yarrow will star alongside Jason Donovan and Sheridan Smith, who have previously been announced as Pharaoh and The Narrator respectively. The show plays a strictly limited 11-week season from 27 June to 8 September 2019 (press night is 11 July).

Joseph is one of stage’s most sought after roles, and Yarrow will be following in the footsteps of a line of stars who have previously played the title character, including Donovan himself.

Yarrow caused quite a stir at the beginning of the year when he starred in the production of Disney’s Newsies at the Arts Educational School. The young actor, who is 21 and from Cardiff, took the role of Jack Kelly and marked himself out as an outstanding talent.

Jac Yarrow commented:

“I can’t quite believe it. Here I am, 21 years old, still at drama school and come June I’ll be standing centre stage at the prestigious London Palladium, singing the iconic music and lyrics of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. My dream came true.”

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be directed by Laurence Connor (School of Rock, Miss Saigon). Connor will be joined on the creative team by choreographer JoAnn M Hunter, Morgan Large who will design the set and costumes, lighting designer Ben Cracknell and sound designer Gareth Owen.

Released as a concept album in 1969, the stage version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has become one of the world’s most beloved family musicals. The multi-award-winning show, which began life as a small-scale school concert, has been performed hundreds of thousands of times including multiple runs in the West End and on Broadway, international number one tours, and productions in over 80 countries as far afield as Austria and Zimbabwe and from Israel to Peru!
