What have Jews dominated the entertainment industry? And musical theatre in particular? New musical revue THAT'S JEWISH ENTERTAINMENT, which premieres at north London's Upstairs at the Gatehouse next month, has the answers...

The premiere production of That’s Jewish Entertainment, a new musical revue featuring songs by Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Sophie Tucker, Irving Berlin, Jerry Herman and many more comes to Upstairs at the Gatehouse and The Radlett Centre in February and March 2017. The latest offering from Aria Entertainment runs Upstairs at the Gatehouse from 7 February to 11 March 2017.

A century of Jewish entertainment in one show! Why have Jews dominated the entertainment industry? How is it that so many writers, composers, performers, directors and producers are Jewish? That’s Jewish Entertainment presents a cornucopia of Jewish talent, with songs, dance and comedy spanning decade of Jewish life, from the Shtetls of Eastern Europe to Broadway, from Yiddish Folk Songs to Hollywood Blockbusters. It’s been a long, bitter-sweet journey, but with a lot of fun on the way. If you like Hollywood musicals, Jewish jokes and a touch of schmaltz, then this show is for you. From Louis B Mayer to Stephen Spielberg, from ‘The Jazz Singer’ to ‘Yentl’, from Fiddlers in the Shtetl to ‘Fiddler on the Roof’.

The cast for That's Jewish Entertainment are Matthew Barrow, Joanna Lee, David McKechnie and Emma Odell.

The revue is written by Chris Burgess and directed by Kate Golledge. It has musical arrangements by Andy Collyer, musical Ddirection by Charlie Ingles, associate musical direction by Alex Bellamy, choreography by Adam Scown, lighting by Ben M Rogers, lighting programming by Toby Darvill and casting by Benjamin Newsome.

About Aria Entertainment

Aria Entertainment is a theatrical production company headed up by Producer and Company Director Katy Lipson. Aria Entertainment is a recipient of a Stage One bursary for new producers, as well as being a proud member of the National Alliance of Musical Theatre.  Aria Entertainment has received several Grants for the Arts from Arts Council England and works on and off-West End in the not-for-profit and commercial sectors. 

Notable credits include a revival of Promises Promises and The Toxic Avenger (Southwark Playhouse); The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Arts Theatre); The Secret Garden - In Concert (UK Tour); Children of Eden - In Concert (Prince of Wales Theatre); Marry Me A Little, Forever Plaid and Jerry's Girls (St. James Theatre) and Rags - In Concert (Lyric Theatre), as well as new musicals When Midnight Strikes, The Return Of The Soldier, The House Of Mirrors And Hearts and The Stationmaster at various off-West End venues.  Future productions include the UK premiere of LIZZIE (Greenwich Theatre); the U.K. premiere tour of The Addams Family and tick….tick…BOOM! (Park Theatre).

Katy is also resident producer at Manchester's newest independently-run theatre, Hope Mill Theatre. Productions there include Parade and Hair and in 2017 they will produce three new musicals YANK!, Pippin and Little Women. Katy is proud to have launched the only new musical theatre season, called From Page to Stage, aimed at the public and industry alike.  Over four years, the season has supported over 50 new musicals in development and this year will be presented at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s recently acquired theatre The Other Palace. She is proud to have received a Hugo award from Upstairs at the Gatehouse for bringing ‘Chutzpah’ to The Gatehouse.
