Carrie Hope Fletcher hosted a packed second episode of Road To The Olivers with plenty for musical theatre fans to enjoy. Two actresses nominated in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical were featured, with Lesley Joseph, currently appearing in Young Frankenstein, explaining to Carrie how “extraordinary” it was to work with Mel
Also featured was Best Actor in a Musical nominee John McCrea for Everybody’s Talking About Jamie at the Apollo Theatre. Asked by a member of the studio audience if he had ever imagined what Jamie’s drag act would be like, he suggested: “Something classic and dramatic, singing Elkie Brooks’ ‘Don’t Cry Out Loud’ while dressed in a big gown.” John and the cast of Jamie will be performing the show’s opening number, ‘And You Don't Even Know It’ during the Olivier Awards ceremony.
Bringing the broadcast to a close was the case of Five Guys Named Moe singing a stylish a cappella version of ‘Knock Me a Kiss’. The four-part Road To The Oliviers Facebook series continues on 29 March and 6 April.
Catherine Tate will host the awards at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 8 April and they will be broadcast to the UK and worldwide. Full broadcast details will be announced at a later.
