The Old Vic Theatre has a rich and treasured history. Located on The Cut in Lambeth, the Old Vic was first established in 1818 as the Royal Coburg theatre. It is a Grade II* listed building and is currently owned by the Old Vic Theatre Trust and ran as a non-profit producing theatre.
The theatre was the first home of the National Theatre on its formation in 1963, under Laurence Olivier. The National Theatre remained at the Old Vic until 1976, since then the theatre has been a producing theatre led by several artistic directors including Kevin Spacey from 2003-2015. Director Matthew Warchus is the current Artistic Director, where he is going to be reuniting the creative team of Matilda to create a new musical based on the film Groundhog Day which will transfer to Broadway in 2016.
