Founded in 2004 by Marcella Puppini, the band pioneered the neo-burlesque/swing scene with their immaculate close harmonies and went on to worldwide success releasing six albums, the first of which became the fastest-selling jazz album of all time, gathering a multitude of fans around the globe including Michael Bublé and HM King Charles! Marcella Puppini says, “I can’t believe it’s been twenty years – time does fly when you’re having fun and it’s definitely been fun! National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine performing Boris Lyatoshynsky's Symphony No. 2

The National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine has long been one of the most distinguished European orchestras, achieving worldwide recognition through its many international tours which include Australia, the US, Europe and Asia. It has announced it will return to the UK for the first time in over 20 years next autumn - Thursday 19 October 2023 - with a rich programme of music by Richard Strauss, Bruch, Sibelius, and Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky. Richard Strauss is most well-known for his collection of great tone poems, of which Don Juan is perhaps the most exuberant and best-loved by concert audiences. Composed in 1888, it is a work by a young man at the top of his form; a life-affirming inclusion in this programme. Bruch belongs to that small group of composers who are really only known for one work – the Violin Concerto in G minor. But what a work it is, perhaps the most performed of all violin concertos, simply – and justifiably – because it is beloved by audiences the world over for its poetic beauty, deeply moving melodies and elegant musicality. Almost all violinists include this great Concerto in their repertoire and with good reason. Boris Lyatoshynsky who died in 1968 is regarded as the father of Ukrainian contemporary music. His Second Symphony is a particularly fine work and in its dramatic accessibility is a major statement of Ukrainian national solidarity. Sibelius wrote his patriotic Finlandia in response to the Russian invasion of his own beloved country. It is therefore understandable that Ukrainian musicians identify with this work of resolute defiance. It is aptly chosen for inclusion in this programme and we look forward to the NSOU’s heartfelt performance.

We're loving this - a fascinating documentary that Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra put together after its UK tour last summer (2022), shining a light on the Orchestra and tour, with some really lovely moments between members of the Orchestra! András Keller conducted a superb programme of Bartók and Beethoven, joined by acclaimed pianist Angela Hewitt for a Mozart Piano Concerto. And we are very pleased to say that both Orchestra and soloist are making return visits in our 2023-24 Zurich International Orchestra Series (though not together this time). Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra returns on 14 September 2023 to perform symphonies by Mozart and Beethoven, with Pierre-Laurent Aimard the soloist in Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 3. After its immensely successful debut tour of the UK in June 2022, Cadogan Hall is delighted to welcome back the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra to open our 2023-24 Zurich International Orchestra Series. In the first half of the concert the Orchestra will be joined by the distinguished French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard in a performance of Bartók’s elegiac Third Piano Concerto, which he composed at the end of his life. In the second half, András Keller will conduct the orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ Symphony. When first performed in 1803, this epic symphonic work changed music forever. The Jazz Repertory Company presents an evening of sun-soaked bossa nova with music from Antônio Carlos Jobim, Frank Sinatra and Doris Day plus selections from Stan Getz’s wonderful 1962 album Focus featuring string arrangements by Eddie Saulter. Take a step back into 1920s & ’30s New York City and through the doors of Harlem’s hottest nightclub, the Cotton Club on 6 November 2021 at London's Cadogan Hall. Swinging at The Cotton Club is the action-packed show celebrating the music and dance of the Cotton Club – New York’s most celebrated nightclub of the 1920s and ’30s. Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller would have had the club swinging whilst dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit-up the stage with their breathtaking routines.
