Mica Paris

Mica Paris's roots are in soul and gospel music. She grew up singing in her grandparents' church and by her mid-teens was making regular appearances with 'The Spirit of Watts' gospel choir (with whom she featured on the 1985 EP Gospel Joy). At the age of seventeen, she got her first break as a backing vocalist with the UK band Hollywood Beyond – appearing on their album, If (1985). In 1988, aged just 19, she released her debut, platinum-selling album So Good with 4th & Broadway Records. Mica went on to release a further six chart topping albums.

Most recently, Mica recorded a new single in honour of Ella Fitzgerald with Guy Barker orchestra to rave reviews and concerts at the royal Albert Hall in December 2017.

From 2007, Mica co-hosted two seasons of the popular consumer style programme What Not to Wear (BBC), after which she went on to become an expert judge on Gok Wan's Miss Naked Beauty for Channel 4.

Mica first treaded the boards of the West End in shows such as Mama, I Want to Sing and Sweet Lorraine. Most recently, her theatre credits include Miss Sherman in Fame the Musical (UK Tour), Momma in Starlight Express Workshop (The Other Palace); Mama Morton in Chicago (UK Tour); Sylvia in Love Me Tender (UK Tour) and The Vagina Monologues.

Mica also played American Jazz Singer, Amelia Walker in At Bertram’s Hotel – Miss Marple for ITV Productions. She presented The Gospel of Gospel for Channel 4 and was also a contestant on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing 2006.

Her previous radio and recording credits include Soul Solutions for BBC Radio 2, Purple Reign: The Prince Story (BBC Radio 2) and High Heels and Low Lifes (Walt Disney Pictures / Touchstone Pictures)

2003 saw Mica presented with the Gold Badge Award by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters for her contribution to the British entertainment industry and in 2004 she was in the Top 10 list of the 100 Great Black Britons.

Mica is also an accomplished author having released her first book: Beautiful Within: Finding Happiness and Confidence in Your Own Skin in 2008. She is currently working on her second book which will be about the lives of female artists.

Mica supports and is an ambassador of a number of charities.
