Fernando Mira

Australian born to Spanish parents, Fernando began flamenco dancing at a very young age with Conchita & Pepe Gonzalez in Melbourne and has travelled regularly to Spain to maintain his technique and ability. Performing now for over thirty-five years in all aspects of the industry, Fernando has earned a reputation as Australia’s foremost flamenco dancer.

Fernando has performed extensively throughout Australia and overseas with some of the world’s finest companies, including the English National Opera in collaboration with the Victorian State Opera on their production of Don Quixote, working alongside opera legend Richard Van Allan. Other operas include Orlando and Carmen with Opera Australia in Melbourne and Taipei.

After touring as a principal dancer with Flamenco Fire throughout New South Wales and Queensland, Fernando was invited as a special guest performer to dance in Seville, Spain for the Andalusian Government. Other career highlights include guest performer for Flamenco Areti, and solo performer with Santos in Japan and Nexus Cabaret Arts Centre in Adelaide.

Fernando’s film and television experience include Man from Snowy River (with Tom Burlinson) , Amy (with Rachel Griffiths), Noah’s Ark, True Love & Chaos, The Today Show, ABC Kids TV, The Mike Walsh Show, and Young Talent Time, to name a few. Most recently, Fernando played the role of Anthony in the new TV comedy series Soul Mates.

In 2013, Fernando originated the role of Rico in the World Premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s production of Strictly Ballroom in Australia, and he is thrilled to recreate this role in the West End. This is a dream role for Fernando where he has the opportunity to combine his true passions for flamenco and acting.
