The orchestra is unique in several respects: it is the only professional orchestra in the world that is dedicated solely to musical theatre: it provides unmatched opportunities for developing musicians to experience playing musical theatre repertoire, and it is made up solely of musicians who are passionate about musical theatre.
LMTO performs several concerts per year at venues in and around London. With each of these concerts, LMTO brings musical theatre to life in new and exciting ways. Whether it’s through a collaboration with a top artist, a new orchestration of a much-loved classic, or simply by giving the music a new sense of vitality because the players love the repertoire so much, an LMTO concert is an unforgettable experience.
LMTO is also passionate about the development of musicians. Every time the orchestra performs, at least a quarter of its positions will be filled by the most talented developing professional musicians. This system benefits the orchestra hugely – the more experienced players guide the developing players when it comes to technique and expression, while the developing players bring a certain raw spirit and enthusiasm to the orchestra, in turn inspiring the experienced players to greater musical heights.
