We are taking a moment to step away from all the current stories of theatre closures to seek some distraction in celebrating legendary composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday. So we’ve picked FIVE of our favourite performances from previous concerts, from the divine Barbara Cook’s rendition of ‘Losing My Mind’ to Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters giving an iconic rendition of ‘Move On’ from Sunday In The Park With George. Oh, and Patti LuPone, Elaine Stritch and Simon Russell Beale might make an appearance too. Hope you enjoy and do let us know your favourites too.
Sometimes it’s hard for dreamers but it’s paid off for the team behind the successful touring production of Amélie The Musical as it journeys to London’s The Other Palace for a festive season, running from 29 November 2019 to 1 February 2020, with Audrey Brisson reprising the title role.

Our #FirstNightTakeover series continues with Perry O’Bree attending the London premiere of Broadway musical The Light In The Piazza at the Royal Festival Hall. Perry gets goosebumps from the beauty and style of the show and has the added bonus of catching up with several members of the cast afterwards including Dove Cameron, Rob Houchen, Celinde Schoenmaker and Liam Tamne. Oh and did we mention that he bumped into Tony Award-winner Ben Platt too?

It’s a newly-reimagined venue in the heart of Soho and its first show is going to be a musical. The Boulevard Theatre opens its doors to the public for the first time in October 2019 with the London premiere of Tony Award-nominated Dave Malloy’s celebrated song cycle Ghost Quartet. What’s not to like?

Romance is in the air as West End performer, Strictly Come Dancing favourite and TV actor Danny Mac joins the UK touring company of Amélie The Musical, based on the much-loved film, opposite French-Canadian stage and screen star Audrey Brisson as Amélie Poulain. Danny will portray the sweet daydreamer Nino Quincampoix from 22 May 2019, with Chris Jared playing the part during performances at the Watermill Theatre from 11 April to 18 May.
First it was exciting that London audiences were going to finally get a chance to see a full staging of Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza, starring Renée Fleming and Dove Cameron, no less. Now the anticipation has intensified with the news that Rob Houchen, Celinde Schoenmaker, Liam Tamne, Malcolm Sinclair and Olivier-nominated international soprano Marie McLaughlin have also been cast in the production which runs for just 20 performances from 14 June to 5 July 2019.
