Dreams really do come true when you believe. We’re excited to hear the first casting news for Stephen Schwartz and Philip LaZebnik’s stage musical The Prince Of Egypt, having its West End premiere at London’s Dominion Theatre from 5 February to 12 September 2020. Leading the cast as Moses and Ramses will be Luke Brady and Liam Tamne and they will be joined by Christine Allado and Alexia Khadime, in the roles of Tzipporah and Miriam.

‘On some marquee all twinkling lights – a spark to pierce the dark’: Cameron Mackintosh has revealed that the Queen’s Theatre in Shaftesbury Theatre will be renamed in honour of Stephen Sondheim when the refurbished venue opens with Les Misérables in December 2019. In the same year as the composer and lyricist celebrates his 90th birthday Sondheim becomes the only living artist to have a theatre named in his honour both in the West End and on Broadway.
After oodles of gossip it’s been confirmed that Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Tony Award winner Annaleigh Ashford will reprise their lead roles in the New York City Center and Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George, opening at the Savoy Theatre in June 2020. Art isn’t easy and nor will be getting hold of tickets!

It’s shaping into quite a cast and we still have several months to wait before the opening! Joining Zizi Strallen’s Mary and Charlie Stemp’s Bert will be Joseph Millson, as Mr George Banks, and the music and stage legend that is Petula Clark, as the Bird Woman (and rumour is Petula’s role may be extended in this staging). It seems that Marianne Elliott’s production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Company at the Gielgud Theatre, featuring a female lead for the first time, hasn’t just been a favourite with audiences. The show won in both musical categories at the 2018 Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards today: for Best Musical & Best Designer for Bunny Christie.

A stream of A-listers including Paul McCartney, Bryan Cranston, Judi Dench, Henry Cavill, Whoopi Goldberg, Jack Black, Steve Martin and more have contributed to a music video for ‘The Hero – A West End & Friends Tribute’ alongside stars of London’s West End (Charlie Stemp, Marisha Wallace, Cleve September, Kerry Ellis and oodles more #StageFaves). Everyone involved wished to pay thanks to servicemen and women around the world and to raise money for the UK charity, Help For Heroes.

Our #FirstNightTakeover series continues with Perry O’Bree attending the West End opening of COMPANY at the Gielgud Theatre, probably the most eagerly-anticipated musical theatre opening of 2018. Perry was there on the Red Carpet and at the after-party to grab selfies (with Patti LuPone, no less) and chat to stars of Marianne Elliott’s gender-bending production, including those important guys: Ben Lewis, Richard Fleeshman, Matthew Seadon-Young, Jonathan Bailey, Alex Gaumond & Gavin Spokes.
