Our #FirstNightTakeover series continues with Perry O’Bree attending the gala night for Mamma Mia! The Party, the immersive theatrical and dining experience being staged at The O2 London. It was an epic evening with star after star saying hi on the ‘Blue Carpet’ including ABBA’s very own Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson as well as cast members Steph Parry, Joanna Monro, Fed Zanni, Julia Imbach and AJ Bentley. Just look at the fairy tale cast for the UK premiere of the Broadway version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, in concert at Cadogan Hall on 20 October. It’s a pretty exciting combination: Robbie Williams, Guy Chambers and Mark Ravenhill all creating a brand new musical adaptation of David Walliams’ novel The Boy In The Dress for the RSC in November 2019, directed by Gregory Doran. But now we know some of the casting too with Rufus Hound, Irvine Iqbal, Natasha Lewis and Forbes Masson all taking lead roles in the much-anticipated production.

Get your glass slippers ready. Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA is coming to London. The Broadway version of the screen-to-stage fairytale musical gets its UK premiere in a concert version, directed by Jonathan O'Boyle and accompanied by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, at Cadogan Hall for one night only on Sunday 20 October 2019.
How appropriate that Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss’ rockin’ Royal Tudor musical Six is going to make history. Two years to the day the show was first seen as a student production at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, it’s announced that the hit West End production will invade Broadway, officially opening at New York’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre on 12 March 2020. When the Chichester Festival Theatre production of Singin’ in the Rain transferred to the West End in 2012 it went on to be a hit with audiences and receive four Olivier nominations. Now it’s back for a five-week summer season at Sadler’s Wells with Adam Cooper returning to the role of Don Lockwood, made so famous by Gene Kelly in the MGM movie. We think the show will make quite a splash.

Did you hear about who was named the 13th annual Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year (SSSSPOTY) and who took home the 12th annual Stiles + Drewe Best New Song Prize? Look no further than LAMDA’s Stuart Thompson and composer Theo Jamieson. Not forgetting, runners-up Bird College’s Paige Fenlon and RADA’s Jamie Bogyo.
What a night for the Broadway production of Hadestown at the Tony Awards which celebrated eight wins including a welcome one for female director Rachel Chavkin and acting honours for the show’s André De Shields. Elsewhere, though, there was still room for Tootsie, The Cher Show and Oklahoma! to go home with two Tony Awards each.
