On 12 May 2019 at London’s Eventim Apollo there will be two concerts of The Best of… Rock Musicals for the benefit of The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust and there are plenty of West End and international stars lining up to take part. They include Adam Pascal, Kerry Ellis, Judy Kuhn, Debbie Kurup, Rob Houchen, and that’s just a few. Are you trying out your air guitar in readiness?
It’s a family affair for Laura Pitt-Pulford as she takes on the role of Sheryl, the matriarch of the eccentric Hoover family, in Little Miss Sunshine, running at the Arcola Theatre from 21 March to 11 May 2019 before heading off on a UK tour. Among the other Hoovers she will be attempting to keep in check will be Gary Wilmot, Gabriel Vick, Paul Keating and Sev Keoshgerian. Happy travels…

Could there be a better time for Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Mary Poppins to return to the West End, with the movie sequel starring Emily Blunt having been such a hit? Now you can put the confirmed dates in your diary with news that the production starring Zizi Strallen and Charlie Stemp will open for previews at the Prince Edward Theatre from 23 October 2019 with opening night on 13 November. Are you booking your flight?
If it isn’t exciting enough that the Fats Waller musical Ain’t Misbehavin’ is being revived at Southwark Playhouse from 19 April to 1 June 2019, following its premiere at Mercury Theatre Colchester from 15-30 March, just look which artists are making their debuts as director and theatre choreographer. It’s only Tyrone Huntley and Strictly’s Oti Mabuse. We think the joint is going to be jumpin!

Late Late Show host and lover of musicals James Corden teamed up with the stars of Mary Poppins Returns, Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda to celebrate some of the greatest musicals of all time, kicking off with Cabaret and finishing off with Mamma Mia! Kermit the Frog even stopped by to help James with ‘The Rainbow’ from The Muppet Movie. Oh, and did we mention they covered 22 musicals in 12 minutes? Is your favourite there?

The naughtiest puppets in town are coming to a venue near you as comedy musical Avenue Q returns to tour the UK, opening at Portsmouth’s Kings Theatre on 25 January 2019. Will you be checking out your favourite fuzzy friends?

The four premiere performances of James Beeny and Gina Georgio’s The Dreamers in December 2018 will mark the first time in history that a musical has been performed at Abbey Road Studios. The iconic Studio One, which has played host to the likes of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Stevie Wonder, Sting and U2, will be transformed into a theatre especially for the event. What an opportunity!
