Shona was born in Edinburgh and brought up in the Midlands. She made her professional debut at th age of eleven in the title role of Annie and went on to play numerous children’s roles in theatre and television. Leaving school to join the company of Crossroads for Central TV, Shona played Sara Briggs for two years, having originally signed for just three episodes! To mark the end of Crossroads Shona released the single Goodbye for RCA.
Shona has just filmed the lead role in The Telephone Detectives, a feature film for Screen Partners. Shona has also just appeared in a guest star role in the Doctors series, recently shown on BBC2, and in a short film for Pop.com – Blush.
When Shona first played Christine in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London (for 18 months) she was the youngest actress in the world to do so. Prior to returning to the role for another 10 month season, Shona starred as Sandy in the hugely successful West End production of Grease at the Dominion and Cambridge Theatres, and played Kathy Seldon opposite Paul Nicholas in the UK tour of Singing in the Rain.
Other theatre includes: I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, at the Comedy Theatre, The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Prince Edward Theatre, Gilmer in Godspell at the Barbican, Lady Townley in The Provok’d Husband at the New End Theatre, Hampstead, Side by Side by Sondheim at the Salisbury Playhouse, Bet in Oliver!, Vicky Hobson in Hobson’s Choice, Princess Hulda in King’s Rhapsody, Dixie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Suzanne Walter in the Theatre Royal Stratford East production of The Wicked World of Bel-Ami, and Alice in Alice in Wonderland, a role she also played in a BBC Radio 4 musical version. Regular listeners to radio will know Shona from her many broadcast performances on BBC Radio 2, most recently as Young Sally in Follies, recorded live at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Other TV includes: two series of the critically acclaimed Thames TV production of Adrian Mole as Barbara Boyer, Lisa in John Godber’s The Ritz for the BBC, and Sandra in the Mother’s Ruin series for Granada TV.
Shona’s recording and concert work includes a Musicals Gala tour of Germany and Switzerland for Stella, the televised tribute to Ira Gershwin Who Could Ask for Anything More recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall, The Songs of the West End and Broadway for BBC Radio 2, and several West End galas with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. She can be heard on Grease, Essential Lloyd Webber II, The Timeless Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jesus Christ Superstar, Musical Love Songs, (all for TER) and the BBC/Drury Lane recording of Follies. Shona’s debut solo album Control Yourself has just been released in the UK.
