A Doctor and a Queen, namely Waitress’ Gavin Creel and Six The Musical’s Alexia McIntosh, were on hand today to announce the 2020 Olivier Awards nominations, just a month before the ceremony takes place on 5 April at the Royal Albert Hall. So now the celebrations have begun, particularly in the & Juliet, Fiddler On The Roof, Dear Evan Hansen and Mary Poppins camps, all of which have received plenty of love from the nominating panel. So who were the musical theatre winners at one of the best loved events in the theatre awards calendar, the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards? Step forward the much loved West End production of Come From Away, Most Promising Newcomer Sam Tutty for his Dear Evan Hansen debut and Best Director Jamie Lloyd who was recognised for three of his shows, including Evita at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.

We are just a little bit excited to hear that Pitch Perfect star and Dear Evan Hansen Tony Award winner Ben Platt will be bringing his Sing To Me Instead tour to London’s Eventim Apollo on 15 June 2019. Today is already a good day.
In the same week that queues of hopefuls lined up for the Dear Evan Hansen open auditions, dates have been confirmed for the Tony Award-winning Broadway show’s West End transfer, with previews at the Noël Coward Theatre set to begin on 29 October 2019 followed by an opening night on 19 November. Now it’s all about what the casting will be!
It probably seems like we have been waiting ‘For Forever’ for Dear Evan Hansen to travel across the pond from the Great White Way but now there’s a date to look forward to… sort of. The much-loved musical will open at the Noël Coward Theatre in autumn 2019, with the original Broadway creative team in place for the West End production. Now we can start speculating about the casting!
