So who were the musical theatre winners at one of the best loved events in the theatre awards calendar, the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards? Step forward the much loved West End production of Come From Away, Most Promising Newcomer Sam Tutty for his Dear Evan Hansen debut and Best Director Jamie Lloyd who was recognised for three of his shows, including Evita at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Did you hear that Gander is going to be welcoming (via London’s Phoenix Theatre) a bunch of new members of the Come From Away community from 10 February 2020 as the award-winning musical begins its second year in the West End? Surely a return visit is in order.
The awards season continues with news of the nominees for the 65th annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards on 24 November 2019 at the London Coliseum. Come From Away, Evita, Fiddler & Sweet Charity are up for Best Musical category while Anne-Marie Duff, Andy Nyman and Sheridan Smith are all nominated in the Best Musical Performance category.

What a night for musical theatre at the Olivier Awards with Come From Away and Company each winning four prizes and awards going to the Sondheim show’s Jonathan Bailey and Patti LuPone. Also in the acting honours though were Tina – The Tina Turner Musical’s Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Caroline, Or Change’s Sharon D Clarke. Plus among the performances Six The Musical almost blew the roof off the Royal Albert Hall!

We haven't stopped talking about COME FROM AWAY since it was announced that the show will be coming to the UK in early 2019 so it just felt right to choose a song of the week from this fab show! "Me and the Sky" tells the fantastic (and true!) tale of Beverley Bass, who led the first all-female crew in the history of commercial jet aviation. Performed here by Jenn Colella, marvel at the awesomeness of one woman, sung in the awesome voice of another...
We can’t wait to see how Come From Away tells the incredible true story of 7,000 stranded air passengers during the wake of 9/11 and the small town in Newfoundland welcomed them. The musical lands next year at the Phoenix Theatre.
