Another weekend must-watch for musical theatre fans. The latest broadcast on the lockdown line-up for The Shows Must Go On freeview YouTube channel is the star-studded 50th birthday concert for composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall.
Tickets to the star-studded special staged concert of Les Miserables were like gold-dust last year when the West End's longest-running musical moved temporarily to the Gielgud Theatre while its home at the Queen's Theatre was refurbished. Something to look forward to! Hairspray has nabbed new dates for its coronavirus-cancelled run this spring at English National Opera's London Coliseum.
Have we got news for you. Paul Merton will make his West End musical debut as Wilbur Turnblad in Hairspray at the London Coliseum from 23 April to 30 August 2020, as full casting is announced. We can’t wait to see him strutting his stuff in the new production alongside his onstage wife, as played by Michael Ball who reprises his Olivier Award-winning role.

Casting for the West End production of Hairspray just got even more exciting as it was announced that Lizzie Bea & Marisha Wallace would be joining Michael Ball in the 2020 production at the London Coliseum.
They dreamed a dream of performing in the West End and it has come true for Brit School graduate Shan Ako & the Royal Academy of Music’s Lily Kerhoas as they take on the roles of Eponine and Cosette alongside a star-studded cast in Les Misérables – The Staged Concert, running at London’s Gielgud Theatre from 10 August to 30 November 2019.
It was the role that won Michael Ball an Olivier Award… No, we don’t mean Sweeney Todd! The actor and singer will be back as Edna Turnblad when Hairspray the Musical arrives at the London Coliseum for a special, strictly limited season in April 2020. It’s a show with big hair and big hearts – and we can’t wait!
We knew the West End production of Les Misérables was moving to the Gielgud Theatre while the Queen’s was being refurbished but we couldn’t have predicted that the venue would be hosting the concert version of the ever-popualr musical and that the cast would feature Michael Ball (Javert), Alfie Boe (Jean Valjean), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Fantine) and Matt Lucas (Thénardier).
