It only takes a moment to check out the latest casting for the new West End production of Jerry Herman’s Hello, Dolly at the Adelphi Theatre, opening in August 2020. So welcome Clare Halse, Tyrone Huntley and Harry Hepple who join the previously announced players Imelda Staunton, Andy Nyman and Jenna Russell.
A Doctor and a Queen, namely Waitress’ Gavin Creel and Six The Musical’s Alexia McIntosh, were on hand today to announce the 2020 Olivier Awards nominations, just a month before the ceremony takes place on 5 April at the Royal Albert Hall. So now the celebrations have begun, particularly in the & Juliet, Fiddler On The Roof, Dear Evan Hansen and Mary Poppins camps, all of which have received plenty of love from the nominating panel. Acclaimed for his performance in Fiddler on the Roof, Andy Nyman is the latest member of the West End Hello, Dolly cast to be announced. He will star alongside Imelda Staunton in the title role and Jenna Russell as Irene Molloy in the show at the Adelphi Theatre, opening on 11 August 2020.
The awards season continues with news of the nominees for the 65th annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards on 24 November 2019 at the London Coliseum. Come From Away, Evita, Fiddler & Sweet Charity are up for Best Musical category while Anne-Marie Duff, Andy Nyman and Sheridan Smith are all nominated in the Best Musical Performance category.
From 18 June 2019 the new Golde and Yente in Trevor Nunn’s West End production of Fiddler on the Roof, a transfer from the Menier Chocolate Factory, will be Maria Friedman and Anita Dobson, taking over from Judy Kuhn and Louise Gold respectively. After a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Trevor Nunn's critically acclaimed revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has transferred to the West End's Playhouse Theatre for a limited season. Continuing our #FirstNightTakeover series, Faves vlogger Perry O'Bree was there. Amongst the opening night audience, he rubbed elbows with husband-and-wife West End stars Michael Jibson and Caroline Sheen and with onstage father and daughter stars Andy Nyman and Harriet Bunton. The anticipation is properly building in the run up to the biggest night in the theatre calendar and now it has gone up a notch with news that all the nominated musicals will be performing at the Olivier Awards 2019 ceremony on 7 April at the Royal Albert Hall, plus The Lion King and Mamma Mia! will be celebrating 20 years in the West End. Oh, and did we mention that stars like Gloria Estefan and Katharine McPhee will be presenting awards?
